Letters from Patients & Their Families

I have had the chance to be treated by Dr. Darryl Werner and his office staff at Orange County Wound and Hyperbaric over a
several month period. My program included many hyperbaric oxygen "dives." Dr. Werner did an outstanding job in explaining what was
happening with my rare and non-healing wound, as well as what to expect therapeutically from my treatment program. I am grateful to Dr.
Werner and his staff for their diligent, comfortable, and highly professional medical care.

I have experienced superb clinical expertise and a caring environment where at least weekly; someone has gone the extra mile for me.

A year and a half ago my mother was diagnosed with a squamous cell skin cancer on her shin. Her dermatologist recommended
treatment by MOHS technique or radiation. The choice to do radiation was made since the MOHS would involve skin grafts and the radiation
might be less invasive. She received 6 weeks of radiation five days a week and was left with an ulcerated wound that did not heal.
After four months of treatment from the radiation specialist, we were directed to a wound care facility. After 6 week of hyperbaric
treatments, months of painful deep debridings and with a growing wound, the doctor at the wound care center said we had come to an
end of treatments that were feasible for an 86 year old woman and the leg most likely needed to be amputated.
At this point my brother and I decided to seek some second opinions before agreeing to amputate her leg. We made several appointments
with wound care facilities in Orange County which we discovered online. Our first appointment was with Dr. Werner at Orange County Wound
and Hyperbaric Center. At our initial visit in January 2009 ,Dr. Werner informed us that he did not see the wound as necessarily a problem
due to radiation but perhaps circulation. He also was encouraging in that he felt we were a long way from thinking of amputating her leg.
After that we did not go to any of the other second opinions as this new treatment seemed very promising. Since that time we have been
visiting Dr. Werner’s office twice a week and are thrilled to see the wound reduced to a third the size of what it was originally. Dr.
Werner and his excellent staff are positive, helpful and innovative in treating each wound specific to the problem. This journey of
healing her wound has been done professionally and compassionately in dealing with my mother. Small changes in topical applications or
adding a felt pad to her leg wrap have aided the shrinking of her wound and left us knowing that Dr. Werner is tailoring my mother’s
wound care specific to her weekly progress. My mom and all of her extended famiy are very happy to see the improvement in her wound and
quite thankful to Dr. Werner and is great staff for the expertise and TLC they have shown us.

My mom was diagnosed with calciphylaxis which caused a black ulcer on her right calve. After sleepless nights of hearing my
mom's cries from the painful ulcer, and after being told by 7 different specialists that she would have to live with the pain we began to
lose hope. On one of our many drugstore runs we came across one of Dr. Werner's patients who told us about how Dr. Werner had healed his
open chest wound. When Dr. Werner saw my mom he said, "Give me a week and if you don't see any improvement than you can get rid of me."
Well, it's been several weeks and we are still going to Dr. Werner since all we have seen have been improvements. My mom's ulcer has
entered the healing stage now. On my mom's best days she feels absolutely no pain and on her worst days she feels only a small amount of
pain. Her pain used to be so bad that she was on strong pain relieving medications like vicodin, which at times in itself was not enough
to relieve the pain. Now on her worst days Tylenol does the trick. Her ulcer wound has began to narrow and we are no longer seeing dead
black tissue but only healthy new tissue growing in its place. All I can say is that if you or your loved one is suffering from a painful
ulcer that you should give Dr. Werner a week and see the improvements that come from trusting someone with years of experience in wound care.

My sister Toni and I wanted to take a minute and thank you so much for your “special” care that our mother has been receiving at your wound care center.
We have to tell you that her last experience at a wound care center in Huntington Beach a few years ago wasn’t something she would ever want to return to. Her stress level went sky high when she found out we needed to go back. But with great luck, due to her change of insurance, we were referred to you.
The minute we walked into your office, the friendliness of the front desk staff, the cleanliness of your waiting room, and the efficiency of taking care of mom as a new patient was impressive. I could see the stress leaving my mother’s face immediately.
I have never been to a doctor’s office where we never waited more than 15 minutes in the waiting room. Our first appointment was with Krista. She immediately explained to us the treatment needed and what to expect. Again, we were so impressed with her friendliness, knowledge and caring. The entire staff was the same. Always a smile, always helpful, very friendly, very knowledgeable, and most importantly, very caring.
Dr. Werner, we would like to thank you so much for hiring the right people for the job! You should be very proud of your employees.
We still have a few times to visit, but again, we wanted to express our thanks and for making our mother’s wound care experience something that she won’t ever be afraid of again!
